As our intern, you’ll spend 6 months to a year developing knowledge in all aspects of the RPM Wine Programs. The internship will be broken into three phases. During the first phase you’ll work alongside our cellar assistants and
learn daily sommelier duties. The second phase you will work with our floor sommelier team. The last and final phase moves towards working with our lead sommelier.   • Full-time availability for a mixture of AM & PM shifts
  • Previous wine education is preferred
  • Restaurant and/or winery experience
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Passionate and enthusiastic about wine
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Job Requirements

Organizes, stocks and maintains wine storage areas; assists the sommelier and cellar assistant as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Organize, maintain and restock all wine rooms, cellars and other storage areas and prep sommelier workstations including stocking glassware
  • Receive wine, beer and liquor deliveries and check wine deliveries for accuracy and quality, and restock wine
  • Attend all weekly wine seminars and team meetings
  • Complete special projects as assigned including but not limited to creating a mock wine program and presenting to sommelier team
  • Assist sommeliers and managers as needed 
  • Participate in server training classes and follow shifts for servers and sommeliers
  • Safely and effectively use and operate all necessary tools and equipment including but not limited to the POS system
  • Maintain availability to work a variety of days and shifts including weekends and nights
  • Ability to effectively communicate in order to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken direction
  • Ability to multitask calmly and effectively in a busy, stressful environment
  • Work in a confined, crowded space of variable light, noise and temperature levels
  • Ability to move and lift up to 10 pounds, frequently move and/or lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to sit or stand for an entire shift and move safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven or slick surfaces

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ensure the overall guest experience exceeds expectations and anticipate guests’ needs
  • Greet guests with a warm, sincere smile
  • Assist with a variety of duties including but not limited to wine selling and service (decanting, aerating, different enclosures, table presentation); daily sales reconciliation; daily and weekly wine preshift focus; updating wine training materials; developing wine pairings with the culinary team; bimonthly wine inventory; opening and closing sommelier responsibilities; etc.
  • Observe and learn wine-related activities and procedures including but not limited to conceptualization of wine in new restaurants; developing and maintaining wine menu; maintaining purveyor/vendor relationships; wine ordering, purchasing systems and account reconciliation; wine education and training for new and existing employees, etc.
  • Understand and respond knowledgeably to questions about the restaurant and menu
  • Understand and follow the food allergy procedure and special orders/restrictions
  • Use tact and good judgment when dealing with challenges pertaining to guests, vendors and employees, and respond with patience and courtesy
  • Comply with all safety and sanitation guidelines and procedures
  • Successfully complete alcohol awareness training
  • Follow all rules, policies, procedures and conditions of employment, including those outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Get along well with others and be a team player
