Lettuce Entertain You (LEYE)’s HR team is looking for a confident, caring person to join us as our bilingual EMPLOYEE RELATIONS MANAGER. This person will have direct interaction with our employees and act as the Employee Advocate and resource for employees and managers.  We are looking for a warm, engaging person who has strong Spanish-speaking skills; some experience in HR from a labor relations perspective; and the ability to handle multiple job demands. This person must be equally comfortable whether leading a large group or engaging in one-on-one discussions with employees. Some background in psychology will be helpful. Our ideal candidate will have HR/employee relations experience within the restaurant/hospitality industry.

  • 2+ years Human Resources experience
  • Some restaurant experience
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Strong bilingual skills (fluent in Spanish and English)
  • The ability to fact-find and report accurately
  • Strong time management, organization and follow-through skills

Be both an English-speaking and Spanish-speaking liaison between employees and management. Be an advocate for all employees and a steward of LEYE’s Culture of Caring.  Investigate and resolve all employee grievances and manager reports of performance issues and policy violations. Work with management and chefs to increase and improve communication with employees.               DUTIES

  • Use tact and good judgment when dealing with work challenges, responding to internal and external colleagues’ needs with patience and courtesy
  • Promptly respond to all incoming employee advocate calls and manager employee relations inquiries and requests
  • Advise, coach and counsel managers and employees on all types of employee relations concerns, including researching and resolving employee complaints and manager reports of performance issues and policy violations  
  • Conduct detailed and thorough investigations, maintaining thorough and detailed reports and documentation at all stages, and effectively communicate resolutions to all parties
  • Develop strong manager relationships through proactive communication and follow through
  • Track and report all employee relations issues
  • Assist with unemployment claims, agency charges and other legal claims 
  • Assist with verbal and written translation of formal and informal HR communications and materials
  • Assist with employee feedback sessions, including breakfast meetings and surveys
  • Conduct restaurant visits to build relationships, attend manager and employee meetings 
  • Deploy and audit compliance with HR programs, policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations by monitoring practices and implementing applicable requirements
  • Conduct restaurant visits in all geographic markets to interact with employees one-on-one, co-host employee meetings with managers, etc. and gather information and feedback on engagement levels and operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Coach, train and develop managers/chefs on best employee practices, including effective communication, coaching, discipline and creating and maintaining positive employee relations
  • Conduct new hire orientations, as needed
  • Identify employee relations and engagement trends, issues and gaps and make recommendations to corporate HR team and operations leaders for continuous improvements, while continuously fostering our Culture of Caring 
  • Have a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations in all geographic markets
  • Have a thorough understanding of Lettuce culture, philosophy, and benefits
  • Have a thorough understanding of Lettuce policies and procedures and the Employee Handbook(s)
  • Overnight travel required
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Work on special projects as assigned by HR leadership
  • Be able to work a variety of hours, days and shifts, including weekends
  • Be proficient in the use and operation of all necessary tools and equipment
  • Follow all rules, policies, procedures and conditions of employment outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Other duties will be assigned as needed
  • Communicate in English and Spanish in order to comprehend and perform/follow job requirements in written and spoken direction
  • Perform more than one task at a time, calmly and effectively in an extremely busy and stressful work environment
  • Work in a confined, crowded space of variable noise and temperature levels
  • Lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Safely and effectively use all equipment necessary to this position
  • Stand and walk for an entire shift, including moving safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven and slick surfaces
